Colva: The additional sessions court at Margao has convicted Ajay Kharat, 29, for the murder of his uncle, Janu Kharat, during a family dispute at Loliem, Canacona, in Nov 2022.The court found Kharat guilty after trial and has posted the matter for arguments on the quantum of sentence.According to the prosecution, the dispute stemmed from Ajay’s refusal to allow his father to stay at his house, forcing the latter to spend his nights at Janu’s residence.On Nov 21, 2022, Janu visited Ajay’s house to reconcile the family and resolve the dispute. During the discussion, an argument allegedly broke out between Janu and Ajay’s mother, waking Ajay.The prosecution said Ajay, enraged by the altercation, confronted his uncle and the verbal exchange soon turned violent. He allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Janu before fleeing the scene. Janu later succumbed to his injuries.
