Chennai: More than 52.9 lakh children below the age of five across Tamil Nadu will be administered oral polio vaccine on Sunday as the state health department launches the National Pulse Polio Immunisation drive at 43,051 booths across the state. Health officials have urged parents to ensure that every child in the eligible age group receives the two drops, even if they have already been vaccinated as per the routine immunisation schedule.The campaign will be conducted at govt primary health centres, govt hospitals, anganwadi centres, schools and other designated locations from 7am to 5pm on Sunday. In addition to the fixed booths, transit vaccination centres have been set up at major bus stands, railway stations, airports, toll plazas and check posts to cover children on the move.Mobile medical teams will reach children living in remote, inaccessible and hilly areas. More than two lakh personnel, including healthcare workers, anganwadi staff, teachers and volunteers, have been mobilised for the state-wide exercise.
