Mapusa: A 55-year-old businessman from Tamil Nadu died of a heart attack in a hotel room at Nagoa, Arpora, police said on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Muruganandam Shanmugam, a resident of Nagapattinam.According to Anjuna police, the incident came to light on Sept 19 around 5am, when the police control room received a call reporting that a man was lying dead in a hotel.Investigators said Muruganandam had arrived in Goa with friends on Sept 17. After a night of alleged alcohol consumption, he and his friend, D Jothibabu, went to sleep in their room at about 10.30pm on Sept 18.When Jothibabu woke at around 3.20am, he found Muruganandam lying motionless on the floor and immediately alerted the 108 ambulance service. Paramedics examined him and pronounced him dead at the scene. The body was then shifted to the GMC, Bambolim, for a postmortem examination.Police said a doctor from the GMC’s department of forensic medicine and toxicology certified the cause of death as “acute myocardial infarction consequent to chronic occlusive coronary artery disease”.Enquiries with the family revealed that Muruganandam had a history of high blood pressure and high cholesterol, for which he was on medication. Police said neither the family nor investigators suspect foul play.Anjuna police have registered an unnatural death (UD) case under Section 194 of the BNSS, and further investigation is under way.
