Ahmedabad: The city’s Dariapur area was gripped by tension on Sunday evening after a dispute between two groups escalated into violence, injuries and damage to vehicles. Police rushed to the locality to maintain law and order in the area, which falls on the rath yatra route. Cross-complaints have been filed.According to one complainant, the trouble began around 6pm near an intersection when an argument in which his son was involved, led to verbal abuse and a scuffle. The complainant told police he tried to diffuse the tension, but failed. Around 7pm, relatives of the accused allegedly gathered outside the complainant’s home, shouted abuses and pulled the complainant’s wife, causing her to fall and suffer an injury on the forehead. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital.Later, around 9.45pm, the complainant and his sons were allegedly confronted near a community meal site and assaulted with sticks and a baseball bat. One son allegedly received grievous injuries. In the ensuing clash, parked rickshaws and motorcycles were damaged, adding to panic in the neighbourhood.In the cross-complaint, a member of the opposite group has alleged that he and a friend were challenged by a youth before being attacked. The cross-complaint also alleges that around 9.45pm, four men threatened and assaulted him and his relatives who tried to intervene. This complainant said a sword was allegedly used in the assault, besides sticks. Several of his family members were injured, he alleged.
