Mumbai Cab Driver Arrested After Student Loses Finger in Powai Crash

Mumbai: A 20-year-old student lost his right little finger after a car allegedly struck his scooter while reversing onto a one-way road in Powai on Oct 10. The cab driver, Hamidullah Khan, then fled the spot and was arrested after the college student, Suyash Kamble (20) from Vikhroli, filed the complaint with Powai police on Monday. Khan was arrested and later released after serving notice. Kamble lost his finger after it got trapped when the car’s rear struck his two-wheeler’s right handlebar, causing him to lose his balance and the scooter to fall to the left.Kamble said the incident occurred around 8.55 am near Lucky Store on Central Avenue Road, Eden Old Market, Hiranandani. “Kamble was returning home after dropping his mother at her workplace when a cab with a yellow number plate allegedly reversed out of a building gate without checking for vehicles behind it. The driver was tracked with the help of vehicle registration number that Kamble noted down after he fell down,” said a police officer of the Powai police station. In the complaint, Kamble said he realised moments later that his right little finger had been severed. Nearby people tried to stop the car driver, but he allegedly escaped. Kamble noted the car’s registration number. “After unsuccessfully searching for the severed finger, I was taken to Hiranandani Hospital by an unidentified local boy. I underwent surgery around 3 pm that day,” he said.Kamble said severe post-surgery pain prevented him from approaching the police the same day. He later submitted the complaint seeking legal action against the unidentified driver.
