PUNE: Siya Goyal’s parents on Thursday rejected the suggestion that she was unhappy with Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal, saying they had no indication that she wanted to call off the wedding. The statement comes after police claimed that Goyal allegedly conspired with her lover Chetan Chaudhary to kill Agarwal instead of eloping with him.Goyal allegedly told investigators that she had informed Agrawal that she did not want to marry him, but he was unwilling to call off the engagement. However, her parents said they never saw any signs of resentment or hesitation from her side.“Siya never expressed any displeasure about this marriage… We did not know anything about Chetan. Ever since the engagement, she only spoke to Ketan…” Siya’s mother said. Her father also said that Goyal appeared happy after the match was finalised.“Siya never expressed her displeasure about the wedding. Ever since the match was finalised, she’s always been happy. She always talked about Ketan… If they (Ketan’s parents) had even slightly informed us that something was going wrong, we would have talked to them,” he said.Ketan Agarwal’s father also said that if Siya had refused the marriage, the family would have accepted her decision.“She could have simply refused; we would have cancelled the wedding immediately,” he said.According to police, Goyal allegedly gave a pre-decided signal before Chaudhary pushed Agarwal to his death from Lohagad Fort on June 18.The duo allegedly decided to kill Agarwal instead of eloping because they feared that running away would bring disrepute to their families, police said.“Initially, both tried to shift the blame onto each other, which is a common tendency among criminals during interrogation. However, Siya eventually admitted that she hatched the conspiracy and Chetan was also involved in the planning,” a police official said.Chaudhary initially claimed that he was present at the fort but did not go to the spot where Agarwal was pushed and did not know what happened, the official said.“However, it was evident that he was lying,” he added.Police said that as part of the alleged plan, Goyal was supposed to give a signal by sitting down, following which Chaudhary would come up and push Agarwal into the gorge.“They have told us what happened and how it happened. Ketan had no idea what was coming. He was pushed into the gorge before he realised anything,” the official said.Police had earlier said the accused allegedly took Agarwal to Lohagad Fort twice before and tried to kill him, but their attempts failed.
