Case against two for duping woman of Rs27 lakh on promise of govt job

Pune: Chandannagar police are searching for two men from Kolhapur who allegedly duped a 33-year-old woman from Manjari of Rs27 lakh on the pretext of securing a govt job for her.The woman gave them the money in 2024. After they failed to return it, she approached the police and lodged a complaint on Thursday. An officer from Chandannagar police said the accused approached the complainant in Jan 2024 and assured her that they would secure a state govt job for her.Between Jan and March 2024, they took Rs36.42 lakh from the woman, citing various reasons. “They gave her a joining letter, which turned out to be fake,” the officer said. He said the woman then started pursuing them for her money. The duo returned Rs9.30 lakh to her but allegedly duped her of the remaining Rs27 lakh.“When the woman did not get her money back, she decided to lodge a complaint. The accused threatened to kill her if she approached the police,” he said. The officer said the woman lodged a complaint against the duo on Thursday. “Our investigation is on,” he said.
