MUMBAI: A scuffle broke out near Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar after supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) returned from a protest at Shivaji Park.A video from the spot shows protesters arguing, with some allegedly hitting each other.The situation soon turned physical, prompting police to intervene and disperse those involved. Mumbai Police later said the situation was under control and peaceful.The incident followed a CJP protest at Shivaji Park over the party’s demands concerning Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.Before the protest, a Dadar resident had opposed the demonstration. “They are doing it forcefully. This protest should not take place,” the resident said, adding that such demonstrations disturb peace in the area.The CJP has been demanding Kumar’s resignation and changes to the functioning and appointment process of the Election Commission. The Election Commission currently lists Gyanesh Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner.Mumbai Police had earlier denied permission for the CJP to hold its October 2 protest at Shivaji Park. The party later announced a “Jail Bharo Andolan”.Meanwhile, a 75-year-old Thane resident died after suffering a heart attack while attending the CJP protest at Shivaji Park on Friday evening. The deceased was identified as Gopalakrishna Subbaiya Pillai, a resident of Dosti West County in Thane.Pillai arrived at Shivaji Park around 4.30pm to attend the protest. Around 5pm, he complained of chest pain. His friend and police personnel at the spot helped take him to Sushrusha Hospital in Shivaji Park.Police personnel tried to revive him with CPR before he was taken to the hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment. Police said doctors attributed his death to a heart attack.
