New Delhi: Property taxpayers can now settle old dues and get relief from interest and penalties under Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s SUNIYO 2.0 scheme, which will remain open till Dec 31.Under ‘One Plus Seven’ scheme, taxpayers will have to pay the principal property tax for the current financial year and the previous seven years, from 2019-20 to 2025-26. On making the prescribed payment, they will get relief from outstanding interest and penalties on dues from before 2019-20, as specified in the press statement issued by the standing committee office.Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma said, “The scheme was aimed at providing taxpayers an opportunity to settle old dues and regularise their property tax accounts…”, appealing to taxpayers to avail themselves of the scheme within the stipulated period.To get the benefit, taxpayers will have to file their property tax return online through MCD property tax portal and make the prescribed payment. Those with a total liability of Rs 5 lakh or more can pay the amount in equal instalments during the scheme period.MCD will scrutinise returns filed under the scheme between April 1, 2027, and March 31, 2028. Any underpayment detected will attract a 30% penalty besides recovery of the differential amount.
