New Delhi: A six-year search for a scrap dealer accused of murder ended after police arrested him from northwest Delhi’s Kanjhawala. Accused Md Sheikh Shabbir had been absconding after assaulting a man in 2020 after an argument in Jahangirpuri.A raid was conducted in the Kanjhawala area following field verification and technical surveillance, leading to the arrest of the 35-year-old accused.“In April 2020, one Shah Alam got into an argument over the price of meat with another man, Siraj Ali (35). The dispute escalated into a physical assault in which Shah brought Shabbir and three other men who allegedly assaulted Siraj with iron rods and wooden sticks. The victim sustained serious injuries and subsequently succumbed to his injuries,” said DCP Chandra Kumar Singh.An FIR was filed at Jahangirpuri police station for murder, voluntarily causing hurt and joint criminal liability. All the accused were arrested during the course of investigation except Shabbir, who remained absconding. He frequently changed his places of residence to avoid detection and arrest.According to the police, the accused has a criminal record; he is reportedly addicted to alcohol and fell into bad company during his early teenage years.
