Gandhinagar: A retired employee of the state secretariat was allegedly murdered with a sharp weapon at a deserted govt plot in Charedi, Gandhinagar, on Friday. The deceased was identified as Ramesh Patel, a resident of Sector 26. According to preliminary information, Patel had gone to the plot as part of his daily routine of feeding grains to peacocks.Patel was reportedly sitting on a chair and feeding the birds when an unidentified assailant attacked him with a sharp, sickle-like weapon. He sustained multiple injuries and died at the spot.Sector-21 police rushed to the scene after being alerted and sent Patel’s body for an autopsy. Police have detained the watchman posted at the premises for questioning as part of the investigation.Police sources said Patel had been financially assisting the watchman’s son with his education. Investigators are examining whether a financial dispute could have been connected to the killing. They are also checking the watchman’s background, including whether he has any previous criminal record.Patel’s son and daughter live in Australia. He was known to regularly visit the area to feed peacocks and would also post videos of the birds on social media.
