Pune: A case was registered against seven people when three dancers hired by a Ganesh Mandal allegedly made obscene gestures while performing on a tractor-trolley during a Ganesh immersion procession.The incident occurred in a village in Baramati taluka on Wednesday night.Pune Rural Police registered the case under sections 296 (obscene acts and songs) and 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against three office-bearers of the Ganesh mandal, three women dancers and a sound-system supplier at Wadgaon Nimbalkar police station on Thursday.An officer from Pune Rural police said during the immersion procession, the Ganesh mandal had organised a performance by women dancers. The three women were dancing on a tractor-trolley to loud music. “Our police constable, who was on bandobast duty, noticed that the dancers were allegedly making obscene gestures. He told the organisers to stop the music.”The officer said Ganesh mandal’s office-bearers had organised the dance performance without prior permission. “We will decide the further course of action after recording statements and examining video evidence related to the procession.”
