Margao: Congress working president Sunil Kawthankar on Thursday accused govt’s move to privatise key public assets even as he maintained that Congress’s Goy Rakhon Yatra draws a strong public response across the state.Citing a tender floated by the Captain of Ports department, Kawthankar said govt plans to privatise its main building in Panaji, along with jetties at Panaji, Betim and Old Goa, and a floating jetty along the Ribandar causeway.“While Congress is having the Goy Rakhon Yatra, BJP is busy with Goy Vikpachi Jatra,” Kawthankar said, alleging the move amounted to handing over public assets for private use.He said BJP was “afraid” of the response to the Yatra and was using the privatisation plan to divert attention from it. He alleged that the proposed floating jetty at Ribandar could end up benefiting the casino industry.Kawthankar questioned the rationale behind privatising the jetties and other Captain of Ports assets, and demanded greater transparency on the tender process and the intended end-use of the facilities.
