Panaji: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has assured residents and tourism stakeholders that ongoing infrastructure work in the tourism hub will be completed by Nov, before the peak tourist season.Work has begun between Calangute market junction and Bandodkar statue on the beach promenade to build an underground box channel for electricity and internet cables, water pipelines and roadside drains, Lobo said.The initial stretch from Jack Sequeira circle to the market was slightly delayed. Excavation prompted traffic diversions, affected local businesses and raised concerns among tourism stakeholders that work on the main road to the beach could disrupt peak-season traffic.Lobo said workers were removing overhead wires and cables and routing them through the box channel. They were also connecting cross drains to carry drain water into the main nullahs.The work is being undertaken by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, which Lobo chairs. He said it would address electricity problems and provide uninterrupted power supply after completion.Lobo said that some people were misleading the public and opposing development work.
