Ahmedabad: A railway technician’s presence of mind at Ahmedabad railway station saved life of a passenger who was left hanging from a moving train.The incident occurred on Platform No. 1 on Monday when the Jabalpur–Veraval Express was preparing to leave for Veraval. Video footage showed a man in his 50s first attempting to board the train and successfully getting into a coach. Later, another middle-aged passenger tried to board the B3 coach while the train was moving.Sanjay Suryabali, joint divisional secretary of the Western Railway Employees Union (WREU), said the passenger lost his balance and fell but managed to cling to the steps of the coach, leaving him dangerously suspended from the moving train. The incident was captured on video, which has since gone viral.At the time, Mahesh Parmar, a technician with the railway’s mechanical department, noticed the passenger in distress. Realising that even a brief delay could prove fatal, Parmar immediately rushed towards the moving train.He grabbed the struggling passenger and pulled him away from the train. Other passengers and railway staff at the station then joined Parmar and helped pull the passenger to a safe distance, Suryabali said.
