Margao: One person was killed and four others injured after a car crashed through the railing of the flyover in Ponda, near the Kadamba bus stand, and plunged onto the road below in the early hours of Sunday.The accident occurred around 1.30am when the car, believed to be returning from Panaji, came down the dangerous curve near the bus stand at high speed. The vehicle rammed through an iron safety railing and a road sign board before going over the edge and landing upside down in the open area below.Pradeep Gouda, 28, a resident of Curti, Ponda, died on the spot. He was travelling with four friends at the time of the accident. The other four occupants sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital, with two of them learnt to be in a critical condition.Ponda fire and emergency services personnel extricated the occupants from the vehicle before they were shifted to hospital.Police said the stretch of road near the flyover has long been considered accident-prone, and locals have repeatedly flagged the sharp, dangerous curve close to the bus stand as a hazard. A case of accident has been registered by the Ponda police, and further investigation is under way.
