Phal Dessai, Shirodkar inspect Opa plant, tell officials to fix supply issues
The ministers have asked the officials at Opa Water Works to check for any underground leakages

Ponda: Amid water supply issues in Ponda and Borim, drinking water minister Subhash Phal Dessai and water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar, on Friday, paid a surprise visit to Opa water works. Phal Dessai said engineers at the Opa Water Works have been directed to identify the root cause and check for any underground leakages. “Presently we are getting the pressure of 0.8kg, but we need pressure of at least 1.4kg to keep the supply regular,” Phal Dessai said. The minister has also rejected the claims that the drop in pressure was due to the increased water connections. “The pressure cannot be dropped due to increasing number of connections,” he said.Shirodkar said the water treatment process also results in sudden tripping of electricity, with 16 such incidents this month. He said the required equipment, including valves and other fittings, will be provided.Shirodkar added that the new 25MLD water treatment plant at Ganjem may be commissioned next week after which the entire water could be diverted to Ponda to address the issue.Opa plant in charge assistant engineers Sunil Shet and Sunil Kerkar, Ponda water supply assistant engineer Kashinath Saraf and other staff were present.
