Bicholim: Residents of Ladfe, Goa-Dodamarg, and nearby areas such as Van, Maulingem, and Kudchirem are facing difficulties due to a shortage of passenger buses, especially after 8pm. Residents said that with no night bus service, many people, including working women, are forced to walk 3-7km home after work.They said the lack of adequate street lighting along several stretches has further heightened safety concerns.During the monsoon, potholes filled with rainwater are difficult to spot, increasing the risk of accidents.Residents have urged govt and the Kadamba Transport Corporation to introduce at least one or two bus services during the 8pm-8.30pm and 9pm-9.30pm slots, citing safety and convenience for people. They highlighted that reaching Lakherem, located around 2.5km away, can take nearly half an hour on foot.Although locals hire motorcycle taxis or private transport, this is not affordable to all.“I have to walk almost 4km from my workplace to reach Lakherem, and I feel unsafe while travelling at night. I request govt to introduce bus services during the night,” said Satyawati Gaonkar, a Van-Maulingem resident.Gaonkar also recalled Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s announcement last year to introduce round-the-clock bus services in rural areas. “However, the announcement has remained only an assurance so far,” she said.
