Coordinate with local bodies, PHCs for dengue control: South Goa collector

Margao: With dengue cases on the rise across South Goa, collector Egna Cleetus on Friday directed sub divisional magistrates (SDMs) to coordinate with the local bodies and primary health centres (PHCs) to identify dengue-prone areas and step up preventive measures to bring down the incidence of the diseaseCleetus chaired a review meeting on the dengue situation along with deputy collector (South-II) Bhiku Gawas and deputy collector (LA) Sanjivani Satardekar. The meeting was attended by SDMs, the DySPs, block development officers (BDOs), medical superintendents and officials from various municipalities.During the meeting, municipality officials informed that fogging and spraying activities have already commenced in areas reporting dengue cases, and will be carried out once a week across the district.Health officials were instructed to mandatorily apprise the SDMs and BDOs concerned of the monthly trend and any rise in reported dengue cases.BDOs were directed to provide labourers to PHCs to carry out dengue control measures, while local bodies were instructed to initiate the necessary activities to control and reduce cases. The administration also decided that regular awareness activities among citizens, along with IEC (information, education and communication) activities, will be conducted for a period of two weeks to promote preventive measures and encourage community participation.
