Kolkata: City police commissioner Ajay Nand and senior IPS officer ADG (Armed Police) Damayanti Sen will lead a distinguished cohort of personnel to be recognised with national and state police honors ahead of the 80th Independence Day for their outstanding service.Nand is set to receive the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), making him the sole recipient of the top national honour from Bengal among 21 medals bagged jointly by Bengal Police and Kolkata Police.Simultaneously, Sen — who gained national prominence for leading the investigation in the 2012 Park Street case, and who currently heads the newly formed state committee investigating violence against women — will be honored with the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Service.Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari will present the state awards on the Independence Day stage to Nand, Sen, Ajay Kumar, Neeraj Kumar Singh, Jayaraman (currently heading the Anti-Corruption Bureau), Pranav Kumar, and joint CP crime (KP) Kunal Agarwal.Out of the 21 medals awarded to Bengal, 20 officers received the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). Prominent rank-and-file awardees include IPS officers, Howrah CP Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi, IG (Personnel) V Solomon Nesakumar, and additional CP (SB-KP) Dhrubajyoti De, alongside inspectors, sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, and constables. The accolades highlight the personnel’s special distinguished record and resourcefulness in preventing crime, maintaining law and order, and advancing major investigative mandates across the state.Nationally, the ministry of home affairs announced 92 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 664 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) across police, fire, civil defense, and correctional services.
