Former Trinamool councillor, 11 others face murder-bid FIR

Kolkata: A case of attempt to murder and rioting has been registered at the Kalighat PS against former Trinamool councillor Prabir Mukherjee and 11 of his political associates following a violent clash over the removal of an allegedly illegal structure on Sadananda Road. Around 25 unidentified people have also been named in the FIR.The Aug 4 incident has escalated into a political and legal feud, with both sides filing FIRs, alleging violence, assault and property damage.The FIR was registered following a complaint by Dibyendu Motilal (51), who claimed that following KMC order, he was taking down an illegal shade along the pavement outside his home, beside a Trinamool office, where Mukherjee had set up his office. He alleged a group of around 35 people, led by Mukherjee, assembled at the spot and restrained him and his companions from dismantling the shade. Motilal alleged the mob hit him, pinned him to a wall by his throat and slammed him to the ground in an attempt to kill him. Injured in the neck, Motilal and his brother were reportedly taken to SSKM.Mukherjee and his associates called the case a politically motivated move. Many have moved the HC for anticipatory bail.Earlier, Mukherjee had lodged a case at Kalighat PS, alleging over 100 armed men, led by Motilal, stormed his office and looted valuables.
