New Delhi: AAP and BJP Sunday locked horns over alleged irregularities in the proposed procurement and distribution of subsidised rice in Delhi.Opposition AAP alleged a Rs 22,000-crore scam and a BJP minister threatened legal action.A Delhi AAP functionary alleged corruption in the BJP-led Delhi govt’s procurement and sale of subsidised rice, claiming that the proposed arrangement could result in a Rs 22,000-crore scam over three years.At a news conference, AAP said the Rekha Gupta govt and an Assam-based corporation had made a request to the Food Corporation of India for subsidised rice to be distributed among the poor in the national capital. The AAP functionary said around 31,000 metric tonnes of rice per week were sought, but they did not reach the intended beneficiaries and were subsequently sold to a private company in Haryana.“The rice, obtained at around Rs 23.20 per kg, was allegedly being sold in the open market for Rs 46 per kg, resulting in a commission of Rs 23 per kg, amounting to around Rs 143 crore scam every week,” AAP said.Delhi food and supplies minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has threatened legal action against AAP.Sirsa gave AAP leaders 24 hours to withdraw their allegations and issue a public apology, failing which party functionaries would face legal action.On X, Sirsa slammed AAP for making “baseless, false, fabricated and malicious allegations” against him, saying they were intended to malign him.AAP said documents would be made public and sought clarification from govt on the procurement and distribution of the rice.“Apology or will meet in court,” Sirsa said. “Enough is enough.”
