Panaji: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has called for joint state intervention to resolve restrictions on the Anmod Ghat route. It said that structural delays are forcing commercial transport to take detours via Karwar or the Chorla Ghat.GCCI president Pratima Dhond said the Anmod Ghat bottleneck has hurt the movement of perishable goods, agricultural produce and raw materials between Belagavi’s industrial foundries and Goa’s processing units, squeezing businesses on both sides of the border.“This creates immense freight backlogs, inflates transport costs, and disrupts supply chains for perishable goods, agricultural produce, and essential manufacturing raw materials moving between Belagavi’s industrial foundries and Goa’s processing units,” said Dhond.She urged a joint representation by GCCI and Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) to the ministry of road transport and highways and both govts to expedite the NH-4A highway project and restore freight movement along the route.Dhond raised the issue while addressing the BCCI meeting. Since 2022, GCCI has been requesting the Centre to complete the construction of the Goa-Belgaum Anmod road. GCCI has said that movement of goods for exports from Belgaum and Karnataka through the Mormugao Port has been hampered.She also flagged growing tensions over police imposing fines on private vehicles from across the border, affecting business executives, daily commuters and tourists travelling between Goa and Karnataka. Dhond proposed a digital interstate clearance system and a joint grievance cell involving transport authorities from both states to address the issue.Beyond immediate logistical concerns, she also proposed a joint GCCI-BCCI coordination framework to strengthen business ties, drive digital transformation, and advocate for unified policies, noting that industrial growth in one state benefits the other.
