Bengal identifies land for Bhavya industrial parks

Kolkata: The state govt has identified two land parcels in Nadia and Paschim Burdwan to set up industrial parks under the Centre’s Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojona (Bhavya) scheme, even as it prepares to roll out a new industrial policy by the end of this month. The state has identified 118.5 acres at Dhubulia in Nadia and around 148.6 acres at Hirapur near Asansol in Paschim Burdwan as potential sites for the scheme. The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Limited (WBIDCL) will be the state nodal agency for implementing the scheme in Bengal.Bhavya, approved by the Union cabinet in March 2026, has a financial outlay of Rs 33,660 crore over six years from 2026-27 to 2031-32. The scheme aims to develop 100 world-class plug-and-play industrial parks across the country.Addressing a press briefing at Nabanna, state commerce and industries minister Tapas Roy said the two parcels had been identified after meeting the land requirements under the scheme.A minimum 100 acres of land with a clear title is required for each industrial park. “The land must be encumbrance free and must be in the possession of the govt. We will submit the plan this month itself. It got delayed as the parcel of land was not available with the govt. We are preparing a land policy. We will submit Phase II of the scheme this month. It is a Rs 33,660 crore central govt scheme which we will try to implement for Bengal,” Roy said.Roy also said the state’s new industrial policy is expected to be finalised and notified by the end of Aug.“No industrial park came up in the last 15 years. We didn’t have the required infrastructure. We are working on developing infrastructure for industry. A stakeholders meeting is scheduled to take place this Tuesday followed by a cabinet meeting soon after which the new industrial policy will come up,” Roy said.InsetIndustries minister Tapas Roy on Sunday said that the Bengal govt was in touch with Tata group for investing in the state. “We are in touch with Tata so that they can be brought in. We are in touch with many companies who are interested to invest in the state. As for Singur, we are seriously deliberating for development but there are many complications. We are trying to resolve those and are in talks with the farmers there,” the minister said.
