Chennai: Two days after a suitcase containing the torso of a man was found aboard the Tamil Nadu Express train in Agra, an intense investigation including scanning of more than 350 CCTV cameras at railway stations has brought to light the involvement of an unidentified couple in the macabre crime.Railway police are yet to identify the couple or the victim.Officers had reviewed footages from CCTV cameras at Central and Park railway stations and those along the Chennai–Tambaram suburban route.The investigation began after railway staff discovered highly decomposed body parts of a man inside an abandoned red suitcase in the general compartment of Chennai-Delhi Tamil Nadu Express after it reached Agra on Aug 5. The body was found without the head and some limbs, prompting Uttar Pradesh railway police to register a case and seek assistance from their counterparts in Tamil Nadu.Police said CCTV footage captured a man and a woman entering Central station with a red suitcase, boarding the train, leaving the suitcase inside a coach and getting off before its departure. They walked to the Park railway station, where they boarded a suburban EMU train bound for Tambaram.A senior officer said investigators tracked the movements of the couple through CCTV footage, but their identities have not yet been established. Police are continuing efforts to identify them by analysing additional footage from railway stations along the suburban route.The investigation gained momentum after Agra police recovered wrappers and receipts linked to a leading textile showroom in Chennai from inside the suitcase. Tamil Nadu police officers said they sought detailed case records, photographs of the deceased and other material evidence from Agra investigators to help identify the victim and reconstruct the sequence of events.
