Ahmedabad: Around 80 industrialists from Sanand GIDC-II staged a protest outside the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) office on Monday, demanding a permanent solution to recurring flooding and power outages. The Sanand Industries Association (SIA) submitted a memorandum to GIDC officials, alleging that heavy rainfall over the past four days had caused widespread waterlogging and prolonged power disruptions.According to the association, power supply has remained suspended in nearly 50 industrial units for the past four days, while around 10 units continue to remain fully or partially shut due to flooding. The association claimed the disruption had caused production losses worth crores of rupees, besides damaging machinery, finished goods and raw materials, and delaying supplies to customers, including overseas clients.SIA president Ajit Shah alleged that industries in the estate face same problems every monsoon and called for a permanent drainage plan, immediate restoration of power, faster dewatering of affected areas, and a time-bound infrastructure upgrade. He also alleged that the govt-appointed officer overseeing the situation had failed to coordinate effectively with industries or address their concerns on the ground.
