The deceased, who lived in Shantinagar Chawl, was ailing and a habitual drunkard, his neighbours told the police

Thane: A 36-year-old vegetable vendor was found dead in a pond along the Kalwa Railway Car Shed premises on Tuesday morning, officials informed.Senior inspector Prataprao Bhosale of Kalwa police station said they received an alert in the morning about a body floating in the pond adjacent to the railway colony, near Kalwa railway station following which teams from the city police, Thane railway police, and the municipal corporation rushed to the spot. The deceased has been identified as a vegetable vendor and a resident of nearby Shantinagar Chawl. Neighbours said he was ailing and a habitual drunkard.“We didn’t find any injuries on his body and his mobile phone and wallet were found on his person, ruling out any foul play. Prima facie, it is suspected he may have strayed in the area late night to relieve himself and must have lost his balance and fallen into pond. We have registered an accidental death report, but may investigate further,” said Bhosale.
