Delhi zoo to get additional entry point

New Delhi: Visitors to the National Zoological Park will soon have an additional entry point from Bhairon Road, ending the zoo’s dependence on the lone entrance from Mathura Road, according to details given by officials during a visit by South Delhi BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri Monday. The new access gate is part of the zoo’s ₹400-crore modernisation project, which began in February this year and is expected to be completed over the next three years.During his visit, Bidhuri toured the zoo with Director Sanjit Kumar to review ongoing works and facilities available for visitors and animals. He also planted a sapling under the Prime Minister’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. The MP said the additional gate would significantly improve public convenience by providing an alternative access route to the zoo, which currently receives heavy footfall through its single entrance on Mathura Road.Officials also said landscaping works are being undertaken as part of the redevelopment, with invasive kikar trees being removed and replaced by native species such as banyan, neem, jamun and peepal to create a more eco-friendly habitat.
