KRISHNAGIRI: Five people, including four teenagers, were arrested on Monday on charges of attacking and kidnapping two tollgate employees at Mathur in Krishnagiri district. According to the Mathur police, the incident happened on Sunday evening. Around 30 people, who were returning after participating in a manjuvirattu event (bull-taming and chasing sport) in Tiruvannamalai, demanded passage without paying charges at the Mathur tollgate. “Tollgate employees refused their demand. The group assaulted tollgate employees Harish and Udayakumar and forcibly took them away on a pickup vehicle,” said a police officer. Police launched a search operation and rescued the kidnapped employees from nearby Karakuppam village on Monday morning. Both were admitted to Mathur Government Hospital for treatment and later discharged. Police arrested K Sakthivel, 26, of Karakuppam along with four juveniles involved in the crime. Several others involved in the assault and the kidnap were absconding, and police were continuing investigations to nab them.
