One festival, 400 mango varieties to savour & celebrate
The 35th Aam Mahotsav by Delhi Tourism brought 400 varieties of mangoes from around the country

The aroma of ripe, golden yellow mangoes filled the air as the 35th edition of Delhi Tourism’s Aam Mahotsav kicked off on July 3 at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri. Inaugurating the three-day festival, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described mangoes as an inseparable part of childhood memories and summer traditions. She said, “Har woh cheez jisse aapke jeevan mein rang bharta hai woh aaj yahan hai.”

‘The king of fruits is also important for maintaining diplomatic ties’The Chief Minister described mangoes as an inseparable part of her childhood memories. Talking about mango diplomacy, she said, “Mango is not just a gift item anymore. India has sent mangoes to diplomats and envoys, signalling that the king of fruits is also important for maintaining diplomatic ties. It is making a name for itself not just in India but internationally.”

A pan-India mango showcaseSunil Anchipaka, MD & CEO of Delhi Tourism, noted that the festival featured over 400 varieties of mangoes from across the country. He said, “This festival has become a legacy of Delhi Tourism, and Delhiites have been looking forward to it for over three decades.” Families celebrated the mango season with mango softies, jams, pickles, mango iced tea and seasonal snacks. The mango mandi was a major attraction, bringing mangoes from Malihabad, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, Haridwar, Gujarat and Maharashtra under one roof.

Orchard to stallsVendors at the festival happily offered mango slices for tasting before visitors picked up multiple boxes to take home. Faheem Qureshi, a mango vendor from Roorkee, shared, “Makkhan aam is buttery soft in texture and tastes really sweet. We have been coming to the Mango Festival for decades. My father was a vendor here, then my elder brother, and now I carry on the tradition. We have multiple varieties, including Dinga, Gulab Khas and Langda, but Makkhan aam is the speciality at our stall.
