Kolkata: A Salt Lake court on Saturday remanded a 27-year-old man to six days of police custody, a day after his arrest for allegedly raping his six-year-old cousin for nearly a year at their Lake Town residence.The horrific ordeal came to light during a medical check-up at RG Kar Medical College, where the class 2 student was taken by her parents due to severe physical pain and bleeding. Alert doctors detected signs of sexual assault and notified the Tala police. Cops filed a zero FIR and escorted the family to Lake Town PS, under whose jurisdiction the crime happened. Within 2 hours of lodging the formal plaint, Bidhannagar police tracked down the accused at his Sector V office and arrested him on Friday afternoon.Preliminary probe revealed that the accused lived in the same house and tormented the child while her parents were away at work. The youth has been booked under Section 64 of BNS and Section 6 of the POCSO Act. ”Necessary medical tests have been conducted, and we are arranging therapy sessions for the child,” said a senior Bidhannagar police officer said.
