Congress needs to set its house in order: Sardessai

Panaji: Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardessai said that as a Congress ally, he hopes that Congress resolves its internal feud well before the assembly elections. He said that “better sense needs to prevail” within Congress functionaries. “They should set their house in order, otherwise nobody will take them seriously,” said Sardessai.Sardessai’s comments come in the backdrop of the arrival of a new political outfit called Goa Congress Party, which has applied to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for registration. The name chosen for the party has led to speculation of a vertical split in Congress, and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal’s two-day visit to the state further fuels the speculation.Congress has been divided since Girish Chodankar was appointed the state president in place of Amit Patkar. Patkar’s abrupt replacement has led to angst within the party and Congress functionaries are now in damage control mode.Sardesai has tried to distance himself from Congress’s internal chaos. He said that GFP has no role to play in the formation of Goa Congress party.“We are the most stable political party in Goa today,” said the GFP MLA. He said that while time has run out for the joint poll preparations, GFP and Congress continue to work to build their respective parties at the grassroots level.
