Pradeep GuptaBhiwandi: A 28-year-old woman was killed, and a motorcyclist was injured after a truck allegedly collided with a two-wheeler on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway near Diva in Bhiwandi on Thursday morning.The deceased was identified as Reema Mukesh Bhatia (28), a resident of Kalyan. The injured rider, Sameer Bhise, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.According to police, the accident occurred on Thursday morning at the Thane-bound carriageway when the motorcycle was allegedly hit by a truck.The impact caused Bhatia, who was riding pillion, to fall onto the road and come under the wheels of the truck, resulting in her death on the spot.The truck driver allegedly fled the scene with the vehicle after the accident.Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, who was passing through the area while returning to Thane after meeting corporators from Nashik at a hotel in Bhiwandi, on noticing the accident stopped his convoy and enquired about the situation.Officials said the deputy chief minister directed his staff to provide immediate assistance to the victims and instructed that an ambulance be arranged without delay. He also ensured that the injured motorcyclist received prompt medical attention.The injured rider was subsequently admitted to the Sub-District Hospital in Bhiwandi for treatment.Personnel from Narpoli police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. Traffic movement on the stretch was briefly affected as emergency responders carried out rescue and clearance operations.A police official said an offence has been registered against an unidentified truck driver, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him. Further investigation into the incident is in progress.
