Surat: A 36-year-old woman from Jharkhand, whose father had alleged she was murdered by her husband and relatives, was found alive in the Sachin GIDC area of the city, leading police to unravel what was registered as a murder case in Ranchi district.The woman, Vini Devi, had been reported missing since Aug 24. Her father, Chhattu Gope, filed a complaint at Khalari police station in Ranchi district, alleging that her husband, Samu Mahto, and his relatives had killed her and concealed the body.Jharkhand police traced Devi’s whereabouts to Surat and sought assistance from the Sachin GIDC police.Sachin GIDC police inspector K A Gohil said police teams launched a search based on information received from Jharkhand authorities. Vini Devi was eventually found living in a rented room in Shivanjali Society, where she had been staying for the past two weeks.“We informed Jharkhand police that the woman had been traced alive. She was later handed over to them as the FIR had been registered there,” Gohil said.According to the complaint, Devi and Mahto had married in 2010 and have two children. Her father alleged that she faced frequent domestic abuse and dowry demands.Police said preliminary inquiries revealed that Vini Devi had left home and travelled to Surat on her own. She reportedly rented a room using her savings and had been living independently in the city.
