New Delhi: Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is the only Indian airport to figure on the list of the world’s top 50 most connected megahubs.The Delhi airport, according to the UK-based air consultancy firm OAG’s listing, is the 28th most connected megahub this year — up 11 places from last year’s 39th rank. This ranking is for the domestic and international connectivity an airport offers and is not for the number of passengers it handles.Istanbul tops the list this year, toppling London’s Heathrow which is now at second rank. Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur and Chicago O’Hare are at the third, fourth and fifth spot this year. The factors considered for this ranking are direct international and domestic connections and connection times.Due to the dominance of IndiGo, India fares better in low cost megahubs with both Delhi (at ninth spot) and Mumbai (at 11th) in the list of top 25 LCC megahubs. IGIA also figures in the top 10 megahubs globally where it is in ninth position.
