Ahmedabad: Hiding Rs 35.5 lakh worth of gold in plain sight, a passenger arriving from Dubai thought her jewellery would blend in as personal ornaments. However, passenger profiling by the customs air intelligence unit (AIU) at the Ahmedabad international airport cut the journey short. The woman was found concealing over 240g of 24-karat gold.“The passenger landed here on Thursday. She was found wearing four bangles and a chain with a pendant, for which she had no documentation,” stated a release by the customs department.The gold jewellery was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.This is the second incident in the past month when a woman has been caught wearing ornaments above permissible limits. Officials said the woman is being questioned to check if she was ignorant of the gold limit or had deliberately worn the jewellery to avoid paying duty.
