BMW accident: Driving licence suspended for six months

Panaji: The assistant director of transport (North), Panaji, on Wednesday, has ordered the suspension of Jagdish Sardesai’s driving licence for six months after concluding that he was involved in a case of negligent driving under the influence of alcohol that resulted in an accident last month. The order was issued after examining records, submissions, and averments placed before the licensing authority.The suspension order pertains to driving licence number GA07 20170000212, issued to Sardessai (27), a resident of Caranzalem, and the action has been taken under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.According to the order signed by Oswin Carvalho, Assistant Director of Transport (North), Registering and Licensing Authority, the authority found that the violations fall under Sections 19(1)(a), (c) and (f), and 185(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The offences relate to negligent driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in an accident, which the order describes as grave in nature.The licence has been suspended for a period of six months, effective from June 17, to December 17. The order states that such violations attract maximum penalties under the Act and Rules, and that the authority is satisfied that suspension is warranted in the case.TOI reported on May 21 that Sardesai, 27, was arrested by Panaji police for drunk, and rash and negligent driving after a viral video on social media showed that he crashed his BMW into multiple vehicles at night.
