Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) garden department on Thursday received a complaint alleging that a petrol pump operator near Shyamal Cross Roads in the Satellite area of Jodhpur Ward had heavily trimmed five trees. A garden department team visited the spot to investigate the complaint. The operator is likely to be penalised, said AMC officials.The development comes a month after a complaint alleged that 19 trees on the stretch between YMCA and Kaka Na Dhaba in Sarkhej Ward were cut to improve the visibility of advertising hoardings. The garden department subsequently imposed a Rs 2 lakh penalty on the advertising agency and wrote to police seeking action against it.In its letter to police inspector of Sarkhej police station, the department said AMC plants and maintains trees and flowering shrubs on road divider between YMCA and Kaka Na Dhaba in the South West Zone’s Sarkhej Ward.The letter alleged that the advertising agency had cut six trees to 3–4 feet above ground level and heavily trimmed 19 others without permission from any competent authority, causing damage to AMC property.
