AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Police was once on alert after an anonymous email threatening to blow up several locations across the state, including Somnath temple and BJP’s state headquarters, Kamalam, was received.Senior officials said that was initially received by Punjab Police and was subsequently forwarded to Gujarat Police by Punjab DGP.The threat message reportedly began with a religious reference and contained references to Somnath temple, chief minister Bhupendra Patel, BJP central office, police personnel and intelligence agency RAW.The sender claimed that bombs had already been planted at different locations. The email also carried provocative slogans, besides references to Pakistan and Khalistan.Following the communication, security agencies and police units across Gujarat were alerted. Authorities began verifying the threat and checking locations mentioned in the email.Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad city police were informed about the threat, following which teams rushed to BJP office in Khanpur. Police personnel, fire brigade officials and bomb squad teams conducted checks at the premises.Shahpur police inspector P B Khambla said the premises were searched with the assistance of bomb and dog squads, but no suspicious object was found. He said that they had received the message from the city control room.The latest threat comes days after similar warnings targeting Gujarat Assembly, Gandhinagar court and a school in Ahmedabad were reported on Sept 10. Police are investigating the origin and credibility of the latest email.
