Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s IPS cadre is getting younger, with Millennials and Gen Z officers accounting for 53% of its strength. Together, they account for 105 of the state’s 198 officers, indicating a clear generational shift in the state police force.2026 IPS Civil List places Gujarat eighth among 25 cadres for the combined share of Millennials and Gen Z officers. The trend comes as several senior Gujarat-cadre officers are due to retire over the next five years.Comprising officers born between March 1997 and March 2000, Gujarat cadre’s Gen Z list features Simran Bhardwaj, Jayvir Gadhvi, Herrsh Sharma, Gautam Vivekanandan, Mansi Meena, Mausam Mehta, Aniket Patel, and Akash Chavda. Bhardwaj and Meena, both born in 2000, are the youngest officers listed for Gujarat cadre.

The officers are serving or undergoing training in various capacities, including field postings as assistant superintendents of police.The entry of Gen Z officers comes alongside a much larger Millennial presence, which alone accounts for nearly half of Gujarat’s IPS strength.The figures are based on Civil List’s classification of Millennials as officers born between 1981 and 1996 and Gen Z officers as those born in 1997 or later. The list reflects the position as on Jan 1, 2026, and includes both directly recruited IPS officers and those inducted through the promotion quota.The official cadre-strength table records 198 IPS officers in position in Gujarat as on Jan 1, 2026.Civil List also points to a gradual change in the cadre’s composition, with four Gujarat-cadre officers due to retire in 2026, four in 2027, six in 2028, four in 2029 and six in 2030.Gen Z officers currently account for around 4% of the cadre, but their presence marks the entry of a new generation into Gujarat’s police force.With a 53% share, Gujarat outperforms several larger states in Millennial and Gen Z officer representation despite its smaller overall strength.
