Ahmedabad: Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU), Ahmedabad, organised a foundation-laying ceremony for its first regional centre in Palanpur. The aim is to expand access to quality higher education in remote regions.Speaking on the occasion, minister Pradyuman Vaja said that the state govt is committed to making education accessible to every section of society. He highlighted that BAOU has played a crucial role in reaching lakhs of students through open and distance learning. The new regional centre in Palanpur is expected to create fresh opportunities for students in Banaskantha and the entire North Gujarat region.Emphasising the importance of the project, he noted that students from rural, remote and socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds will benefit from improved access to higher education facilities closer to home. He also congratulated the university and administration for the initiative.Vice-chancellor Ami Upadhyay added that strengthening educational infrastructure across regions is key to fulfilling the university’s vision of ‘Education for All’. The Palanpur centre will offer services such as admissions, academic guidance, examinations and student support locally, making higher education more accessible, efficient and inclusive for thousands of students in the region.
