NEW DELHI: Independent MP Pappu Yadav on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, alleging that she is focused on filing cases against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and questioning her understanding of the law.Speaking to the media Yadav said, “As for Sushma Swaraj’s daughter (Bansuri Swaraj), it appears that she was born only to file cases against Rahul Gandhi. She goes to the police station whenever she wishes. She has no understanding of the law.”He also said Swaraj should follow parliamentary procedures before taking such steps. “Let her first seek permission from the Speaker in the House,” he added.Yadav also responded to a notice issued to him by a court in Uttar Pradesh, saying he would cooperate with the legal process while rejecting any suggestion that he supports violence.“I do not believe in violence. The Prayagraj Court has taken cognisance of the matter and issued me a notice, so I will respond to it,” he said.His remarks come amid a political row over a skit performed by opposition MPs inside the Parliament complex, in which they targeted the Centre over the alleged Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case.Yadav has defended the performance as a peaceful protest and said he would explain his stand to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla after BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal moved a privilege notice against him.“You can abuse Nehru, Indira Gandhi, or Mulayam Singh in the House. You can abuse whomever you please; that is fine. You can prevent the Leader of the Opposition (LOP) from speaking in the House; that is fine. But when someone protests in a dignified manner outside the House, where does the question of ‘privilege’ arise?” Yadav said.He said he would present his explanation if asked by the Speaker and added that he had already written to him.The protest has triggered multiple police complaints, demands for the resignation of those involved and strong criticism from the BJP.The controversy stems from a demonstration in which Purnia MP Pappu Yadav, dressed as a temple priest in saffron robes, joined other opposition MPs in performing a skit featuring a donation box and allegations of corruption linked to the Ram Mandir donation issue.Following the protest, BJP leaders, including Bansuri Swaraj and several party MLAs, filed police complaints in New Delhi, alleging that the demonstration hurt Hindu religious sentiments. A separate FIR was registered in Varanasi on the complaint of a religious leader, while another complaint against Pappu Yadav was lodged by petitioner Surya Maithil at the Jehangirpuri Police Station in Delhi.
