Kolkata: The city police has unveiled a new look for its all-women scooter patrol team, Durga Suraksha Vahini. Formerly known as Winners, the unit is transitioning from the standard all-white police attire to a custom-designed uniform and specialised safety helmets so they can easily be identified by women in distress.Under the new dress code, female officers and personnel will wear a lightweight waistcoat or apron over their standard police uniform during patrol hours. The front and back of the garment are predominantly pink while the collar, sides, and buttons are bright orange. The outfit features two side pockets and additional inner pockets for operational convenience.In a prominent visual feature, the front left and back of the waistcoat display images of Goddess Durga’s face, with a trident appearing to emerge from her eyes. Directly beneath the emblem, “Durga Suraksha Vahini” is printed in bold English lettering.Lalbazar has placed an initial order for 110 waistcoats for Rs 2.8 lakh. Squad members will also receive upgraded pink protective helmets with the Kolkata Police logo. The police department has allocated Rs 1 lakh to procure 80 such helmets.
