Surat: Acting on a complaint from a branded watch company, Mahidharpura police raided two shops and confiscated 979 counterfeit watches worth Rs 2.78 lakh. Police also arrested two accused and booked them under the Copyright Act.Gaurav Tiwari, a legal adviser with Titan Company Ltd, filed a complaint with Mahidharpura police, stating that Metro Traders and Alam Traders were selling the counterfeit watches bearing their brand name.Based on Tiwari’s complaint, inspector D U Barad raided the shops. “We first raided Metro Traders at Vishnu Apartments near Maskati Hospital. During the raid, we found the owner, Jatin Chopra, selling the fake watches. We confiscated 513 watches worth Rs 1.83 lakh. We also raided Alam Traders in the Galemandi area and confiscated 466 fake watches worth Rs 95,900 from Salman Shaikh, the owner of the shop,” Barad said.
