CHENNAI: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Wednesday questioned the loss of 151 government super specialty medical seats in the state and sought an explanation from the ruling TVK government.In a post on X, Stalin asked the government to explain how the seats were lost and what steps it had taken to safeguard the state’s interests.“We have lost 151 future government super specialty doctors who would have served Tamil Nadu. This is an issue that concerns the lives of lakhs of people in the state,” he said.Stalin recalled that the DMK-led UPA government had secured 27% reservation for OBC students in central educational institutions six years ago, contrasting it with what he described as Tamil Nadu’s loss of super specialty medical seats.He questioned why the senior advocates appointed by the state government did not appear before the Supreme Court and alleged there had been negligence from the outset, including delays in appointing senior counsel.The DMK president also asked why the state, despite having what he described as a strong legal case, failed to effectively present its arguments before the apex court.He further questioned whether the state counselling process had been conducted before the second round of the All India counselling by declaring 151 seats vacant, thereby facilitating their transfer to the All India quota.Stalin also asked why the government did not move a special resolution in the Assembly opposing the transfer of the seats despite demands during the recent session. He sought an update on the review petition filed by the state against the Supreme Court’s May 29, 2026 verdict.Saying the questions were being raised by affected government doctors, Stalin urged the TVK government to provide a detailed explanation to the medical fraternity and the public over the loss of the 151 super specialty seats.
