Pune: The Pune Rural police on Monday arrested a 38-year-old farm worker on the charge of bludgeoning his wife to death over suspicion of infidelity. The incident occurred in the workers’ quarters on a farm in Shirur, about 66km from Pune, on Sunday afternoon.An officer from the Shirur police said the accused assaulted his wife with a wooden stick inside their room for over four hours. “The woman could not survive the assault and succumbed to her injuries,” the officer said.He added that after hearing the woman’s screams, their supervisor went to the room and requested the accused to stop. However, the accused allegedly threatened him with a sharp weapon and pelted stones at him and others.“The supervisor then alerted the police. On seeing the police, the accused opened the door. He told us that he had murdered his wife over suspicion of infidelity. We rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead,” the officer said.
