New Delhi: Delhi Cabinet has approved a ₹244.9-crore project to build a 250-bed superspecialty trauma block at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Dilshad Garden by 2028.The new facility will have 48 specialist OPD rooms and nine modern operation theatres. It will also have 77 critical-care beds, including 70 ICU beds and five burns ICU beds. The remaining critical-care beds include emergency and isolation facilities.The seven-storey block will come up under Phase-IV of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. The building will have a basement, ground floor and six upper floors. The basement will house a blood bank and a laboratory. The ground floor will have a 24×7 emergency department along with CT scan, MRI and X-ray facilities. The second floor will house a 72-bed ICU. The fourth and fifth floors will have 175 general and private ward beds. The sixth floor will have offices, classrooms and a laboratory for training doctors.Of the total 250 beds, 20 will be for emergency care, four for isolation, 22 for pre- and post-surgery care, 102 for general wards and 25 for private rooms. The block will provide specialist services in areas, including neurology, orthopaedics, dermatology and dental care.Chief minister Rekha Gupta said GTB Hospital was the only major govt hospital in east Delhi and it often witnessed a heavy patient load. She said the new block would bring emergency care, diagnostics, surgery and intensive care under one roof for accident victims and other critical patients.A committee of senior officials from the Central and Delhi govts will monitor the project. It will meet every three months to review construction progress.
