Ahmedabad: A police constable was allegedly assaulted, abused and threatened by four members of a family while attempting to serve a court summons in the Raipur area on Saturday evening.According to a complaint filed by constable Jayesh Barot, he was on summons duty in the Kagdapith police station limits around 5pm when he reached Kantodiavas to deliver a court summons in a pending criminal case.Barot stated that while inquiring about the person named in the summons, he identified himself as a police officer to Anil Chunara. Instead of cooperating, Anil allegedly confronted him and told him not to enter the locality. He further allegedly said that the constable could “call whoever he wanted” and that he would remain there. Anil then allegedly abused Barot and began pushing and scuffling with him.During the altercation, Sonal Chunara allegedly joined Anil in abusing and pushing the constable. Shortly afterwards, Ravi Chunara and Dipsinh Chunara also arrived and allegedly joined the assault.According to the FIR, the four accused tore the buttons off the constable’s uniform shirt, prevented him from serving the summons and threatened to kill him if he returned to the area.Barot informed his senior officers, following which personnel from the surveillance squad and a mobile police van were dispatched to the spot. The FIR states that the accused continued behaving aggressively even in the presence of other police personnel and objected to police entering the locality.Kagdapith police have registered a case under sections related to assaulting and obstructing a public servant, criminal intimidation and other offences.
