NEW DELHI: Two suspected shooters linked to the Tillu Tajpuria gang were arrested following an encounter, two days after a 37-year-old property dealer was shot dead outside his residence in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala, police said on Sunday.The accused, identified as Vishal and Rahul, sustained bullet injuries to their legs during the exchange of fire and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police recovered two pistols, live cartridges and a stolen motorcycle from their possession.Harish Mathur was shot dead outside his house near a school on Karala Road around 11.15pm on Thursday, a day before his younger son’s first birthday. Police had earlier said two motorcycle-borne assailants fired three to four rounds at Mathur, who was declared dead at the spot.Crime and forensic teams examined the scene and recovered three to four empty cartridges and motorcycle tyre marks. Investigators suspected the killing was a targeted attack and were probing a possible gang rivalry angle.According to police, teams were conducting raids to trace the accused when they received information that the two shooters would be passing through a highway. A trap was laid, but the suspects allegedly tried to flee, leading to an exchange of fire in which both were injured and apprehended.Police said the duo is suspected to be associated with the Tillu Tajpuria gang. They are being questioned about the conspiracy behind Mathur’s murder, the involvement of other gang members and the weapon used in the killing.Further investigation is underway.
