Ahmedabad: Police have intensified disaster preparedness measures across the state following forecasts of heavy rainfall, with director general of police (DGP) G S Malik directing all city, district and range police chiefs to remain on high alert for the next 24 to 48 hours.During a high-level video conference on Wednesday, the DGP reviewed flood preparedness and instructed police units to work in close coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district administrations to ensure prompt rescue and evacuation operations whenever required.Police said boats, rescue equipment, and other emergency resources have been kept ready for immediate deployment. Joint evacuation plans have been drawn up with district administrations, municipal corporations, the forest department, roads and buildings department and power utilities to shift residents and livestock from low-lying and flood-prone areas to safer locations.Traffic police personnel have been deployed on national and state highways to regulate movement during heavy rain. Cranes have been placed on standby to clear stranded vehicles, while alternative traffic routes have also been identified to minimise disruptions.Officials said district control rooms have been activated and will remain in continuous contact with the state control room in Gandhinagar to monitor the situation round the clock.
